Recognizing Likely Life in a Dead Pool

Postby Don Schaeffer » Fri Mar 14, 2025 3:23 pm

Much of what I see when I examine my older stagnant water samples, frankly, looks dead. Sometimes the forms look integrated like protists but they just float in whatever water motion there is. Some protist-like shapes don't move and may actually be resisting currents. Others, usually very tiny things, actually move like living organisms. These tiny entities are the most likely to be living organisms of some kind.
