I examined two sections of biofilm. One was formed from parts
of a dead fly in the tank and the other from a thick algae formation.
There were ciliates, including a vorticella, many of which were viewed
through the semi-transparent layers of biofilm. One large ciliate
seemed trapped and resembled a mass of bubbly gelatin, heaving
and pushing as if in a struggle.
