Social Microbes

Postby Don Schaeffer » Tue Feb 18, 2025 9:58 am

It is easy to say that microbes are not social creatures. But what we can see belies that. Protists are intensely social. They are team players from the second they emerge into the water medium. Of course it's hard to say what that actually means if you there is no notion of social function. But no one can deny the appearance of social functioning in microbes. Most of them are intensely social. The only remaining question is if it means anything to say they intend to be social. But I think the same question can arise regarding humans.
