Strange Motionless Entities in Old Stagnant Water

I assume these are life forms of some kind. They appeared rather suddenly in an older biome. They now cloud the otherwise clear water. They are motionless. I did come across literature that said they are a stage in the life cycle of certain organisms. I also read that they are associated with can be medically toxic.
