Top vs Bottom of the Water Column

Postby Don Schaeffer » Fri Sep 13, 2024 2:07 pm

The newer mudpuddle has now stabilized. Two concentrations of protists (as indicated by water cloudiness) have formed at the top and the bottom of the jar with nearly clear water between them. I thought there would be some separation of life forms between the top floaters and the bottom sinkers. With examination, I don't know if I can see a difference. It is possible there is more variety of species closer to the upper surface but I can't be sure. The first images are of the top followed by the bottom sample.
