The outer surface of this cucumber has stiffened from contact with air. The texture is almost rubbery. Under the microscope cells are visible. There are some distortions. There are some cell structures that appear to be moving, suggesting micro-biological activity. But that is not certain. This cucumber appears to be in an intermediate stage--just beginning active decay.
