This puddle isn't very old--a matter of a week or so. The sample was drawn from the surface of what looks like clear water. There appear to be few if any protist-type organisms but there are a fair number of bacteria (mostly rods but some cones as well). As this puddle ages and I explore surfaces close to the soil line I expect to see a greater variety or life.
