I started this stagnant water pool a few days ago. Biofilm has been deepening on the surface of the water for one or two days. The surface is now teeming with bacteria and a generation of small protists is maturing. There are a few larger protists as well. The story is that protists take some days to mature out of the organic genetic material in the water carried to the culture.
