Once you drop a leaf into a mudpuddle, the protists and bacteria go to work on it right away. They destroy cell membranes in the leaf and begin consuming the internal structure of the leaf essentially leaving just color particles if that. Some parts of the leaf are harder to digest so after a time you can stll see veins and other more resilient structures. I was just curious to see what I could see in the destruction of a leaf after a period of weeks. If this is not serious science, consider it art.
