You can almost say that the mandarin orange invented plastic. The protective layer of cells between the shiny outer shell and the inside of the mandarin orange is a thick, flexible cushion. Cell structures in this tissue are difficult to identify. It is a cushioning, protective layer and the tissue is rubbery. Function controls structure.
