The smaller of my stagnant water cultures is populated largely from what creatures came off elm leaves. Today I examined the transitions that were occurring as the elm leaves entered advanced decay. The region at the edges of the leaf is loaded with organic particles breaking off from the leaf. It is an environment that harbors thousands of creatures.
