Examining a hollow plant with spear-like leaves, I found the actual plant walls to be very thin, just a few hundredths of a millimeter thick. Yet I had to scrape a few cell layers off in order to see the cell structure clearly. Nature can really miniaturize. After I scraped it down to near invisibility, the microscope could resolve cells that looked, ironically, like bricks.
