I returned to my mud puddle to find a much changed scene.
The piece of biofilm I pulled out of the water seemed full
of trapped organisms. Some of them moved a little like
independent algae cells or diatoms move. The landscape
was littered with them. Some ciliates were buried deep in
the film although there were a few swimming in the water beyond the biofilm.
