Poet Queen I would not be a Poet Queen-- plain 'versifying' 's fine with me; to lift a heart or spark a smile, to prompt a tear, or pass the while are kudos, credit, craft to me-- who would not be a Poet Queen. And am I lazy, lax or loose (who'd stoop to rhyme a line with 'goose'!), or just a 'half-baked, silly twit' who'd pass off doggerel as wit? Oh, Fie!, that I should have the gall, who'd 'dare to show my face', and all... But, think (!) whom you'll remember best-- Sylvia Plath, or some small jest that wormed its' way into your heart by morphing 'noxious gas' to 'fart'(!)? To me, that secret grin's the gem worth so much more than folks do ken. And so, I will not task my soul for finding diamonds in the coal, or 'passing' on the Perrier to splash in brooks along my way and quaff of Life's refreshing stream and...thrill to mud, my toes, between! --Packrat. Ha, who needs titles like Poet Queen anyway, Packrat. We will always enjoy your wit and fire, no matter what we call you. Just one small thing -- Did you mean Sylvia Plath? |

Pack... I must confess that I typically steer clear of rhyming poetry... but this was a sheer joy to read. It was fun and I thank you for laughs! Cary...

Thank you, Cary! Joy is what it's all about! (Too much angst and self-imposed morbidity in the world as it is, eh?! ) I'm so pleased you enjoyed this, and hope it also raised a grin (or two!) amongst not a few of the 'quiet' audience that Wild enjoys! --Packrat. Emusing, Kathy, Dale--thank you so much for enjoying this! Rhythm & rhyme doesn't have to be boring or strained or any of the (apparently manifold) bogeyman-things that seem to make people steer clear of rhyming poetry...it really enjoys itself best when it's light, crisp and full of cheeky sass! (Me, too!) Keeping a strong meter/beat going gives it momentum and a 'life' of its' own can make it well-nigh irresistable. I fear we're just too used to rhyming stuff that tries too hard...eh?! Thanks, all... --Packrat. |

P, cute and true .. can't beat that. The "to rhyme or not to rhyme" debate has been going on since the 16th Century. The oldest known writeup I know of on the matter is one by George Webbe in 1586. Imagine the poetry we wouldn't have today if the 'do not rhyme' faction had won back then.

Too, too true, Blue! ...heh-heh-heh...you tempt me to re-post a poem I posted wa-a-ay back (when I first found Wild), in defense of rhyming verse. It was meant to encourage neophytes and/or the timid in the face of the barrage of discouragement they often run into when innocently posting some modest and unsuspecting snippet of rhyming verse...but it strongly echoes exactly the point of your comment. Wanna 'egg me on'...hmmmm?!?! (There's always a 'new' crop o' young'uns, out there, to encourage and inspire...!) --Packrat. (*...waggling her eyebrows and grinning with mock-dev'lish enthusiasm...* OH! Hey! BTW...today's my BIRTHDAY!! (Yeah, and I'm "only 29!"}...... Birthday Toast I'd not be crass, but, "Raise a glass!" to Ogden Nash or...kiss my ass! (...scuttling off, back to the Nest, laughing maniacally, but with the best of intents!...)-P. Thanks, Lisa, glad you enjoyed! (I'm getting too old and cranky to have much patience left for too much of the agony/angst/anguish stuff of my earlier years...time to be liberated from all that dreadfully serious dreck I too often pumped out...eh?!) Huzzah!! for the flippant and foolish...life's too damn short to dwell on the grim and foreboding for any longer than it takes to get over it!! --Packrat. |
