Honorable Mention Alzheimer’s Tamara The Minorah of memory once shed light upon the past. Vision of history paved by drops of tallow, hinted with oils of fragrance. Candles of many, soon burn to a single taper. Molten wax drips from the eyes, the ears, the nose and mouth, leaving yesterday’s existence a hardened puddle upon the table. The sweet aroma of retention, replaced by charred forgotten. The wick of living moments, slowly flickers to no discernment. Visual modality of now and then, burnt to a lingering vapor. With no heat left to temper thought, faces, names and instincts, forever forgotten, covered in amyloid paraffin. As we sit and watch their candle quiver light upon our path. It is not our memory that melts, it is our hearts.
