Honorable Mention Swans of the Ox-Bow M. Kathryn Black The ox-bow is still and deep; in the evening swans glide. They are ships on pink water, glowing white follies under a single star. Gracefully they open their pinions as they float home to roost in soft dark thickets. Tucking heads under wings they dream of slow fish seeking their black beaks, of sun-lit ripples moving. Under the warm blanket of night the swans are great eggs mirroring the waxing moon.
