Honorable Mention In the blink of an eye Janis (Carole MacRury) We are but motes floating on the surface of a blood-shot eye igniting hotspots into flames from yesterday’s still-warm ashes. We live with ocean rage, glacial ice, and shifting plates; seek the divine of our existence, catch glimpses in our peripheral vision of the body-human, the magnetic wholeness of the sum of all we are – a truth often found in the eye of a stranger, a last breath, or a landslide that just ‘happens’. We hold to our stained-glass passions, sure of the sun’s rise, the bend in the bough, the morning song heard in the newborn’s throat, the strength of the bole and the roots that hold us tight, despite worm-rot, strangling vines – we keep the faith without knowing why, recognize the ineffable of our short lives, and die a little death each sunset; know our destiny is irrevocably linked to stardust.
