Honorable Mention Yesterday Vienna (Carole Barley) Walk beside me, head bowed under storm. Windsnatched words tell you that the moon absolves us of everything, love as unconditional as this is never the result of a brick through jewellers window, the consequence of listening to Lennon in the smokeblurred halls of universities. Thin words through chapped lips, swung far on Northerlies crueller than usual at this time of year. Snowflakes settle on your brow, your strides longer than mine, me, struggling at your side, to keep up. Love and death, both are vermilion. When you slow at the gusty corner to stop and forget, break as you remember, my hands and arms will be constants. Our words become incantations, white ghosts the wordshapes of love, offered up, taking on form, seen as real, almost grasped in frost air. Something solid to believe in.
