Honorable Mention My Brother’s Bike Kenny A Chaffin Shiny, new candy-apple red with chrome plated fenders I felt I could fly like the wind. His was used second-hand Huffy with hard rubber tires repainted fire-engine red. When he got it I stared at the ground embarrassed for all of them but him, he beamed and loved that bike in spite of what I felt. It was hard to ride on our country roads But for years he always kept up. Riding his best, laughing and panting but something was in his eyes. As the years passed by we couldn't keep up and we never talked much of those bikes. He went his way, I went mine and today he's gone for good. He stayed near mom when I went away he got the hand-me-downs. I felt as though I stood on his shoulders; him boosting me to the top To climb the fence leaving him behind with never a bitter word. We never talked much about those bikes -- seems we never talked at all.
