Change from Cell to Fiber

This is complete speculation. I have been looking at leaves of a few lawn plants as they become fiber, their life properties drop to zero. In this particular previously green leaf, the cell structure of the plant seems to have changed into a straight fiber form rather than individual boxy cells.
