High Density Bacteria Biome Separates from the Protist Biome

A Bacteria Sub-Biome

Bacteria begin to dominate the surface of the biome, while protists decrease in number. This is the surface of the biome which is now covered by a dense flexible biofilm.

Thinner Bacteria Sub-Biome

The density of organisms is much more equitable outside of the dense layer at the surface of the biome. Under the surface the bacteria are distributed much more evenly and there is a large free-moving population of protists.
