A Maturing Microbe Culture

Postby Don Schaeffer » Tue Oct 03, 2023 10:09 am

It's been about 10 days of development in the mudpuddle. The variety of microbes has broadened with the appearance of a few kinds of larger individuals. The water in my collection jar has developed a biofilm cover, a weak gelatin-like surface. When this matures, I can pick up my water surface with a loop collector. This is just a dissection needle bent into a loop a couple of millimeters in diameter. Using the loop I deposit two or three biofilm samples directly on the slide for viewing.
