Killer Biofilm Growth

I really don't understand what is happening here. Two days ago there was a recovery in the number of larger protists in the biofilm. Now the larger protists are missing again and the biofilm seems to have absorbed what is left of the plant cells from the culture. Very small organisms--possibly bacteria are all the active life forms that remain.
