Three Similar But Very Distinct Lawn Flowers

Postby Don Schaeffer » Wed Jun 21, 2023 8:57 am

I found three very similar lawn flowers. They each had average-sized oval-shaped petals. In principal the plants had similar structures. However the cell structures were very distinct for the three flowers. The cell tissue was more transparent on some than others. One seemed almost to transmit light. Some cells were irregular in shape and other took a more geometric form (although the irregular shape was the same for all or most of the cells). I also looked at the petals face down and face up for comparison. Those two views suggested different functions regarding light reflection and transparency. Also note, sometimes it's impossible to get sharp focus on a flower because it is covered with a transparent curtain of cells that makes focus very difficult.
