The Shoreline of a Leaf

I took a piece of disintegrating leaf from my mudpuddle this morning. In the microscope world, it was an island and I was flying over the shoreline of the leaf. Featured prominently in what I saw were relatively large diatoms that were long enough to see with the naked eye---but not wide enough. I hovered over a very interesting amoeba. Then there were the nameless little wrigglers, flagellates, and cyanobacteria.
