Bacteria activity increases and their number increases. Bacteria respond to increases in their numbers by joining masses which look increasingly like multicellular organisms. They form biofilms based on the substance of their own bodies. The ciliates and other organisms are caught in the process, react with behavior changes at first and can eventually form cysts which become part of the film.
