City of Living Dead

The original mudpuddle is now like a city of the living dead, almost literally. There are many particles occupying the space. In addition to the diatoms and cyanobacteria, some of the particles wriggle in a kind of imitation of life. Occasionally a very small thing moves through the desolation with wriggles or some dance that resembles a living thing. Is it a living thing or a zombie of some kind? The question of limitations on the definition of life comes up.
