On the side of the garage, competing with better, bigger plants, is a thin vine whose flowers are going to seed. I chose it for its humility, and brought a small section in for my daily tour. What I found was an unusually beautiful and diverse living structure on a microscopic level. The microscope transforms it from ugly duckling to beautiful swan.
