Like many microscope hobbyists, I have been pre-occupied with finding a "natural" source of specimens. When my friend installed a birdbath in the garden I thought, "this is it." I tried sampling the water only shortly after it was installed and found little. Now after a full summer in the garden, I am beginning to see small ciliates, lots of flagellates and a number of slow-moving amoebas. Interestingly, I didn't see a lot of bacteria. It's a beginning.
