The addition of some new (not fresh) vegetation gathered from sidewalk edges and lawns has improved the variety of life in my mudpuddle. There are some hairy large ciliates and some many tiny flagellates (about .01 mm in size). The bacteria are there, still moving and active not yet massing. It's an interesting time.
