Some dried leaves are still accumulated on the water surface, but just below the floating leaves the biofilm is quickly developing and the protist population is increasing. Crowds of protists are gathering in high nutrition concentrations floating in the mudpuddle. I saw a family of rotifers for the first time in this sample.
