The skin of a tangerine looks like it was designed by an industrial engineer. The outside of the skin is difficult to penetrate and the inside is a tangle of fibers difficult to sort out. There is a layer of regular plant cells as well. The outer skin is difficult to penetrate and the inside of the skin is a cushioned smooth surface to protect the juicy core.
