Dear Poetry Aficionados,

Poetry & Poets in Rags blog

Here we are leading up to Christmas Day and what poetry, I wondered, would the news periodicals lead in with. The answer is: soldier poets and their poems. So this is what we lead in with as well. Amid those articles in News at Eleven on soldiers and their poetry are articles on Federico García Lorca, Aung San Suu Kyi, the top poetry books of 2009, and more. Our Back Page links to an item on the Dead Sea scrolls, which goes into, for instance, what they can tell us about the early years of Christianity.

In our Great Regulars section, there is too much to summarize as usual. So let me tell you, not even about all the seasonal poetry and articles there, but about the remarkable snow from Wallace Stevens via Bryan Appleyard, Albert Goldbarth via Fleda Brown, Gregory Djanikian via Garrison Keillor, Frank Wilson, Andrés Rodriguez via the Kansas City Star, and John Glenday via The Scotsman, but specifically not from Robert Herrick via Robert Pinsky.

Thanks for clicking in. Merry Christmas.

Yours,
Rus
