I just got through the arduous task of getting the summer issue ready for printing at Lulu. We will still be online but I thought it would be nice to offer print as an option. After I uploaded everything and went to order a proof, I was shocked. $5.71 for shipping and handling on a 52 page book!!!! That is more for shipping than the cost of the book. I cannot see offering this book at that price. Crazy. So, anyone have any experience with other self-publishing sites besides Lulu? Should I just scrap the idea of publishing quarterly and wait for a yearly anthology? thanks in advance Jennifer "To be without some of the things you want is an indispensable part of happiness." That is expensive. They've upped their prices in recent times. I know Amazon has a program but I don't know what the S&H charges are. Maybe this is where most try to catch a little extra cash.... I'm sure others will have better input. Maybe a pdf downloadable version? e Word Walker Press; Moonday Poetry; Kyoto Journal

I get SIX issues of Poets & Writers for $18 or so, including postage to my door. It's more than 52 pages. $5.71 is off-the-charts outrageous. Fred YOUR FOOTNOTE ADVERTISEMENT HERE. Call 1-555-555-5555 and ask for Fred. 10% discount if you mention Wild Poetry Forum.

Shipping costs are making life difficult for a lot of businesses. I'm buying and selling on Ebay these days. Shipping costs are a killer. I have to charge $6 or $7 to ship most items, and even at that I sometimes have to add a buck or two out-of-pocket to cover shipping costs. I saw an item on Ebay yersterday. Starting bid .01. Shipping $65! Hee hee. "People who believe a lot of crap are better off." Charles Bukowski

I can't make any guarantees about this information, Jennifer, but here's a link to a website that offers a database comparing a large number (90) of POD publishers. Once you get to the website, you can click on the link to download the free POD database: POD Database I don't think they list anything about shipping costs, but perhaps this database will help you narrow down the list. And then you can check into the shipping costs of those you are interested in. Hope this is somewhat helpful. And good luck with this venture. I think it's terrific that you want to offer a printed version of the mag! Love, M |

Just an FYI, Lulu has taken over the poetry.com website, it's now Lulu Poetry. We had a good discussion regarding that a few weeks ago here in EO. I wonder if that has anything to do with their prices going up? Kathy You're invited to: Wild Flowers Poetry is a way of taking life by the throat.~Robert Frost

I checked out Amazon's. It appears the shipping is the same as what they charge for all other works. About $3 a book. Smiles. Gary Celebrate Walt with Gary: http://www.poetrykit.org/pkl/tw10/tw4conte.htm
