I've noticed a trend here at Wild recently that people are writing poems about poems or including the word poetry, poem, or some other poetic term in their poetry. Being curious why poets would want to write about poetry I did a google search and I found this site: Poems on Poems I didn't really find an answer to why poets write about poetry, and I'm still curious about that. I did find that a great many poets have written a poem about writing poetry. I think I might have even done that at one time or another, but can't remember why I did. Anyone with any insight on this topic is welcome to share. Kathy You're invited to: Wild Flowers Poetry is a way of taking life by the throat.~Robert Frost

One of the best poems about poems is Billy Collins' piece "The Trouble with Poetry," contained in his book by the same title. Here is a link to the poem: Collins' Terrific Poem * * * * * Ars poetica is at its best when it exposes the peccadilloes of the poetry community. Steve Kowit has a great poem called "I Attend a Poetry Reading," which casts the reader at the lectern as the personification of Satan. * * * * * I myself have written a number of poems about complex, difficult poems that are puzzles more than nuggets of literature; as well, I've written a few poems about the "cult of the MFA." One recently for all intents and purposes got me kicked off another poetry forum. But, enough of me . . . Fred YOUR FOOTNOTE ADVERTISEMENT HERE. I wrote a poem once after I got chastized by others in a forum for giving harsh critique of some real crappy rhymers posted by one of the forum's sweethearts. I'm posting a revised version of that poem in BIO now... "People who believe a lot of crap are better off." Charles Bukowski

Fred, I know that Collins poem well, it is the one I modeled my poem about critique after. Maybe part of the inspiration for the poem. Dan, I'm going to have to check out your poem in Bio. Kathy You're invited to: Wild Flowers Poetry is a way of taking life by the throat.~Robert Frost
