"celebrating with his dog while his wife is out of town".

Sounds divine.

Thanks for posting this, Dan. We had the pleasure of hearing Merwin speak just a couple of months ago. And this recognition couldn't happen for a better press. Long live Copper Canyon!

Love,
M

If you read the article you saw that the fine poet Ted Kooser is also a CP author. Right on!

This post won't get nearly as much interest as the "Somali Pirate" post, but hey--I tried!!

As Gary would say: "Smiles."

Dan, wonderful post.
Being from the Big Wet, I have some experience with Copper C. Nobody does it better, esp, imnho, with translations.

Congrats to all, including us poets who benefit.

Smiles.

i couldnt be more pleased, Merwin has been one of my favorite writers for nearly thirty years, and he never stops inventing. Every time I read a new book of his, Im looking at a different Merwin, not an easy thing for any poet, at any age...

I love Copper Canyon! They are also champions of translated works. William O'Daly has just translated World's End (the last of nine books of Pablo Neruda).

Quality to be had a Copper Canyon.

Merwin is a great choice. Hope he gets most of the $10,000 smackers. Wonder if the IRS gets a cut [bastarditos].

Dan,

W.S. Merwin is a tremendous poet, and well deserving!
