Yes, it is interesting. Thank you for posting this. Sometimes I think that various electronic journals and web sites such as this one have a farther range than old media would like...... But it is intriguing that no matter who is talking about poetry, there is always that nod to the idea that it is a "marginal art." And yet it is one practiced by more amateurs than pros(?) Everyone who can pick up a pen or tick out words on a keyboard I think at some level believes they are a poet. But It's funny, people almost never think of themselves as "artists." How many times have I heard people look at something and simply say, "I can't draw." Of course it is a learned skill, like many others. There is no mystery really. But it is strange the way the different mediums are viewed. IOW people regard "Art" as something elevated and distant from their own abilities, yet poetry is simply about expressing one's views particularly in rhyme. :^} I think the issue of wider readership of poetry is probably not the problem as much as the successful generation of revenue. How to get at that interest and make a little something from it, eh? Well as I said probably a bit far afield from the article, but it is always fun to read articles like this. Thanks again M regards sue |
