Dear Poetry Aficionados, Poetry & Poets in Rags blog Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn, or Alexander Solzhenitsyn, has died. This is the most covered story in poetry, literary, and book circles this week. I selected three varying articles about him for our Poetic Obituaries section. And in our Great Regulars section, you'll find excellent items by Jeffrey Brown, Jeff Baker, and Bob Hoover. The theme of politics and poetry rises to the foreground from other parts of the world as well. In News at Eleven, we hear from Tibet, Burma, and Iran, but also from Devon in an article about the Arvon International Poetry Competition. This general theme of the writer dealing with politics, weaves itself in and out of the Great Regulars section as well, until we find three items in a row: Denise Low bringing us poet Barry Barnes; followed by the second half of an interview with poet-activist E. Ethelbert Miller; followed by Luisetta Mudie informing us about how journalists covering the Olympic Games in Beijing will be kept from online information. It's a big week for poetry news around the world, and there are some terrific poems to click into as well. It's not all politics. I have not even mentioned our first three articles or the Back Page story. That's all for your discovery. Thanks for reading. Thanks for getting to this information. Yours, Rus Our links: IBPC: Poetry & Poets in Rags Poetry & Poets in Rags blog IBPC Home ~~~~~~~~~~~ |
