Yes, Mr. B, rather a travesty, isn't it? Portland didn't even make the top-ten list of literate cities. Wonder what idiot is doing these surveys? Obviously, he is not standing outside Powell's. *smile* Love, M |

I LOVE THIS! Thank you for posting it M. It think that it's incredible that she sold out at 2,500!! Whoooo hoooo! Kick ass poetry. I saw her in Seattle a couple of years ago. It was at a smaller venue of 1,000 persons. My friend and I stood in line two hours for a ticket. I was near the very front of the line which snaked back down the block and around the corner. I met a musician from the Seattle Sympthony who reads Oliver's poetry because she says "it's musical." It made me so happy to know that others loved her for different reasons. That is, this wasn't your usual crowd of poets, this was a massive group of literate people who wanted to hear a great poet read. Afterward, I stood in another looooooooong line so I could say hello and buy her book. The first book signing I ever attended. It was great inspiration. She just read here in Los Angeles (for the first time to my knowledge). I don't know how many attended. A friend of mine attended so I'll have to ask. But this was a very large and main venue in L.A., Royce Hall. Love, e www.wordwalkerpress.com

p.s. I remember that after she read she asked if anyone had requests. Shouts from the audience began yelling out their favorite titles. It was like a rock concert. www.wordwalkerpress.com

Wonderful, wonderful! I wish I could have been there with you. I missed the event at Royce Hall, unfortunately. I missed Robert Haas, too. I need to find out when these things are happening a bit earlier....

M, wow! I'm so jealous. No one cool ever travels to the U.P., unless you count sled dog or outhouse races. We're probably ranked in the bottom ten literate places. Thanks for sharing this. K You're invited to: Wild Flowers How do I explain these poems? Not at all. -Anne Sexton
