Dear Poetry Aficionados, Poetry & Poets in Rags Big poetry news comes in veins this week. We begin our reading in News at Eleven with three articles from Veterans Day. This war poetry vein continues in our Great Regulars section with links to the Scotsmans' Poem of the Week, and the Guardian's Saturday poem. The movie Beowulf is being released, and this event as well as the poem, is covered in News at Eleven, but also by Great Regular John Mark Eberhart. Norman Mailer has died. This too is covered by John Mark, but also Great Regulars Charles McGrath, Jay Parini, and Frank Wilson, as well as in our Poetic Obituaries section in a Washington Post article by Bob Thompson, big names covering a big name. Also with a vein of five articles is the topic of poets before courts of law. The last four articles in News at Eleven have to with this subject of poetic and creative freedom versus, at times, poet imprisonment, as the coverage by Great Regular Luisetta Mudie does. By the way, Great Regulars Frank Wilson and John Timpane both have superb articles in a Latin vein. Big thanks to E. Ethelbert Miller, whose results and commentary are in for the October IBPC poetry contest. And big congratulations to Elodie Ackerman of The Town, whose poem "Afterglow" took first place. The poet Nochipa of PenShells, and Tim J. Brennan of About Poetry Forum took second and third with their poems "A Woman of Summer" and "A Good Day to Die" respectively. I appreciate your clicking in.
