Dear Poetry Aficionados, Poetry & Poets in Rags blog We welcome two Great Regulars: Lisa Alvarado of Blogcritics.com, and René Wadlow of Newropeans. Their articles will no longer be in News at Eleven, where we've seen them before. Each week, I will search for articles by them--wherever their work gets web published--and include what I find in the Great Regulars section. In fact Lisa became a Great Regular last week, but since then has published another fine article. You may know of René from his The Flutes of Dionysus series. In News at Eleven, we begin with an assault on a Muslim poet Taslima Nasreen in India. This is followed by another Muslim poet, Mohammed Hegazy of Egypt, needing to go into hiding, fearing for his life. In both instances, people are joining assault mobs against them, and some people, who should never be clerics of any religion, who haven't a clue what Allah would want, are issuing or threatening fatwas. It is an insane situation. Those two stories are followed by two on Charles Simic, three terrific interviews, and three articles that feature poems, one by online poet Art Durkee of The Critical Poet. Also, you'll love the Welch take on Wilfred Owen. And be sure to browse through the longer than usual Poetic Obituaries section.
