Dearest Membership -- I just received my latest newsletter from the folks who publish Poet's Market (don't know what that is? Click here):

Poet's Market

and wanted to make you aware of this part of the newsletter:

COMING SOON--the 2008 edition
of POET's MARKET

Pretty soon, when you click on the Poet's Market website or check out the online bookstore, you'll see a brown-and-tan book with a silhouette of a tree; that's the new 2008 edition of Poet's Market. As cool as the new cover is, what's inside the book is even better. You'll find over 1,600 listings for magazines/journals, book/chapbook publishers, and contests, as well as conferences, workshops, and festivals, organizations, and additional resources for poets in print and online.

The line-up for the articles is pretty great, too. In addition to our regular slate of updated resource material on manuscript preparation, tips on how to submit your work, and advice on dealing with editors, the 2008 edition features the following:

• ROUNDTABLE: Poets and Blogs by Anne Bowling, with Amanda Johnston, Janet Holmes, Jilly Dybka, Reb Livingston, and C. Dale Young.
• PROFESSIONAL OPINION: Setting Industry Standards by F. J. Bergmann
• ANNE MARIE MACARI: Christian myth and motherhood by Amy Ratto Parks
• SECOND RATE POEMS: They rate a second chance by Jane K. Kretschmann
• THINGS START HAPPENING: Poetry as power for inmates by Brian Daldorph
• ONLINE POETRY FORUMS: A new community for poets by Donya Dickerson
• CHRISTINE SWANBERG: Living the well-imagined life by Nancy Breen
• HANK HUDEPOHL: Making connections by Erika O'Connell
• STANLEY BARKAN: Translating the essence of a culture by Travis Adkins

Watch future newsletters and check the Poetic Asides blog for excerpts from these articles in the coming weeks!

I point you in specific to that part of the blurb that talks about Online Poetry Forums. We were interviewed by Ms. Donya Dickerson (an editor for McGraw-Hill, specializing in Business Nonfiction), and Wild Poetry Forum, along with another poetry forum whose identity is unknown to me at the moment, are the forums that will be featured in Ms. Dickerson's article. Let's hope I don't sound like a complete idiot in that interview. *M saying her prayers*

I will let you know when the 2008 edition of Poet's Market becomes available to the public for sale. That's normally in the August time frame.

I highly encourage you to invest in a copy of this much-valued book when it becomes available -- and not just because it will have an article that features Wild (even though that is pretty damn exciting!). This compilation is one of the best resources available to poets on markets that accept poetry -- it is (or should be) the practicing poet's bible. No poet's bookshelf would be complete without it!

This is a real big deal. I've tried MANY poetry forums, and this is by far the best.

WOW, M! That's fabulous! I can't wait to see the article. I have the 2005 edition and I echo M's sentiments--it is an invaluable resource for any poet looking to submit his or her work.

Go Wild!

Lookin' good as it should be and is at all times the best place to be. It should be recorded on disk as well as on paper...it's a fine atmosphere we're never pressed to be in.

Thank you all for your support. Yep, this is a pretty big deal, especially to me. I can remember buying and using my annual copies of Poet's Market until the pages had hundreds of post-it notes attached to them and were just about falling out of the book. It is a resource I've admired and respected for many years. Never in my wildest imaginings did I foresee that Wild would be quoted and advertised in its pages. It's like growing up admiring celebrities and then becoming one. Almost too good to be true.

BTW -- the five bucks apiece I promised each of you for the compliments (by far the best, wonderful place to be, etc.) was money well spent. Your checks are in the mail! *LOL*

Seriously, without all of you, Wild would be nothing. We who pretend we own this place know who really provides the blood and muscle, the heart and brain. Thanks to all our loyal and gracious members. This recognition belongs to all of you as much as it does to Wild herself.

Much Love,
M
