Dear Poetry Buffs,

Poetry & Poets in Rags

Happy New Year! We have a remarkable New Years edition this week. It is the biggest ever. Unfortunately, part of this reason, is the 19 obituaries, the most ever there. Scroll down slow, and click where your heart tells you to. But, Great Regulars tops that with 23 links, the most ever there as well. Of course, News at Eleven has eleven links--or does it?

Our lead story has two places to click, one to the audio, and one to an article that is distinctly different, yet is a companion to it (or vice verse, depending on which you get to first). I hope you love it, like I do. Therefore, we have 54 links, enough for two leap weeks.

But, the new year is everywhere. The next article is about turning over a new poetic leaf in your life. We have articles about Jack Kerouac, who published "On the Road" 50 years ago. It's his year now. W.H. Auden who would be 100 this year--his year too. John Betjamin, who was 100 last year. And more, much more.

Poems from Paul Jones, Linda Sue Grimes, perfect for the holiday. Which reminds me, three poems published by the Philadelphia Inquirer! And, I wanted to include all I could find from the daily "Poems for the holiday" series in the Victoria Times Colonist, so they're in Great Regulars too.

The poets, journalists and editors have cooked up a feast for us. Speech over. Dig in.

Yours,
Rus

Rus--I meant to send this to you over the weekend, but didn't get the chance. From the Boston Globe about carpenter poets in Jamaica Plain.

A wonderful article!

Thanks, Lisa.

Happy new year!

I'll put it in the mix and see if it stands up. I hadn't seen that one before.

Yours,
Rus

Oh jeez, I could not remember where I got that link from. Thank you, Lisa. Of course. I'm just tired. That made a great "Back Page" article for this week.

Yours,
Rus
