I've really enjoyed this forum so far and was wondering if there were anymore poet forums like this one out there? Links? Thanks |

There are many poet forums, but few like this one. Here are a few you might look into -- Desert Moon Writers Block Eratosphere (preferance for formal poetry) Frugal Poet The Gazebo PFFA (put on your Kevlar) Fred |

DMR (Desert Moon) is the best of the group in my opinion after Wild Writer's Block I had a bad experience with The GaZebo I'm frightened of by reputation I used to get the best crit from The Melic Review but they had a laizze faire attitude and the madmen put them out of business don't know about the rest except Mitchell likes "about poetry" peace laurie

Lately I prefer posting right here, though I have posted for quite a while over at About.com. There's some real talent there, and I really enjoy the challenges, but for the most part there's little in the way of critiquing going on. I sometimes stop by Frugal Poet, which is a fairly close-knit group and better than About for critique, and Inside the Writer's Studio, which is fantastic if you are a mature writer ready for honest, serious, in-depth critiques. It depends what you're looking for, I suppose! All told, Wild offers a relatively close community that's open to newcomers and old pros alike, offers variant levels of critique based on where you post, and runs its own challenges... so it suits me fine. Any of the forums in the IBPC would work. I also like PKlist at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/PK-POETRY-LIST.HTML mainly because it mostly Brits. Remember every forum has a personality and you need to be in one that matches yours. Some are so serious that anything light is given the toss, some are cliques, some use tough love to the point of bleeding the poet, some crit for crit's sake even when nothing should be said, some ebb and flow with inactivity. Some are the last place for a begnner. But all that you need to discover for yourself. Good luck. Smiles. Gary BTW, no one knows how many on the web, but I would quess over 500.

With trepidation I have to say that the place that was probably the best I have ever seen on the net was Kudzu Monthly, which had private member area for the writing and critiqueing of every form of written expression. Their member cast included not only published authors, but screenwriters, musicians, poets, magazine owners and editors, publishers... Regretfully the owner, Stoney, ended up with a job that kept him from keeping the site up and the people he entrusted the job to decided not to follow up on htat trust. While there are still articles and stories on the net from Kudzu Monthly, the private area is now shut down and all of us have wandered away. I made many great friends there, and recieved some of the softest yet most helpful advice by everyone that posted there. Since then, that is the ultimate goal of any forum I run, yet I can not possibly come close. This is probably the closest I have come to help without all the pettiness that most forums have. Ah, as for now-closed sites, Chiaro-Oscuro was wonderful. I was sad to see it go. I've really only become a member at the handful I mentioned, and I don't post regularly on but one or two. Ah, I also joined Urbis, that's an interesting place worth checking out. Urbis is sort of a zero on community because of the framework of the site, but it's got an interesting point system where you earn points reviewing and then spend them to post. And posting costs twice as much as you make with an equal amount of review, sort of forcing you to review twice as much as you post if you want to post regularly. The upside is plenty of feedback and a nice layout, while the downside is receiving reviews from people who just want points and post useless critques, in addition to the aforementioned lack of a community feeling. Despite all that, it's worth a look. Good luck! ~Jeff "I had a lover's quarrel with the world." ~Robert Frost
