Dear Poetry Fans,

Poetry & Poets in Rags

Our headliner this week has three new war poems with audio links. They're excellent. Our second article is another open letter of protest from a poet, this time from and addressing the Middle East. After these two articles, our "News at Eleven" section shifts gears out of war and oppression, and at one point, into winter, into a couple articles with superb January poems.

Our "Poetic Obituary" section is the largest section this week, and not because big names haven't died. I had announced Irving Layton's death in a separate post as soon as I could this week, and today, I bring to you what I believe is the best article on him from then up to noon today. Hopefully, we will have more quality articles on him and his poetry soon, articles for our "News at Eleven" sections in coming weeks. Another of the poets, who you'll find in the obituary section, already has an article in this week's first section. It's a very moving big chunk of a great poem by her. You'll see.

Yours,
Rus
