Dear Poetry Fans, Poetry & Poets in Rags Congrats again to Christine Klocek-Lim of Poets.org, Sarah Sloat of both Desert Moon Review and Inside the Writer's Studio, and Hazel Wilcox of Pen Shells, for making the shortlist at The Guardian's "Poetry workshop" this month. Also, each has something to do with Poetry & Poets in Rags this week. Thanks to Christine for sending me this week's second story, "Why polemics are killing poetry." And I thought Lucy Newlyn's comment on Hazel's poem was so good, that I snatched a quote from it to entice readers to click in. Sarah, though, in a thread at Desert Moon Review, asked me why I am including obituaries that only make mention that someone enjoyed writing poetry and such. Again this week, I find myself in between, and inclusive. My response to her in that thread remains, as I write, how I look at the situation. I was careful this week, to almost identify such an item by the quote before the link. In turns out, they are both very interesting crime stories as well as being about teenagers who wrote poetry and died tragically. There we have three lady IBPC poets. How about four? We have a fourth IBPC poet for this week, folks! Lisa Cohen of Wild Poetry Forum has a poem featured by our friend Frank Wilson at his Books Inq. Go to the Great Regulars section, the same section you'll find the poetry of Christine, Sarah, and Hazel. Oh goodness. There's so much more. It took me a long time to put this week's issue together. I found poetry by Eugene McCarthy for our Poetic Obituary section, scoured the web for the best story on Angel Island, and had to be sure about the right link to our headliner. Lot's of tough cuts this week too. A few times the past couple years, I mentioned a need or demand for someone to find the good poetry and link to it as it comes on line. For now, in our Great Regulars section, I am adding Slate and MR Zine. I'll be on the look out each week for what they add, as I do with others, like the Guardian. This may spawn yet a new section. Does the name Andrew Varnon ring a bell? Each time I have found an article he has written for the Valley Advocate, it has made P&P in Rags. This week, he takes his alphabetical spot among Great Regulars, with a terrific, fresh look at Ted Kooser. Yours, Rus Our links: Poetry & Poets in Rags IBPC Home IBPC Newswire ~~~~~~~~~~~ |

Rus--what a surprise! Thanks for sliding me in. I was floored when Frank Wilson emailed me to ask to use my poem in his blog. Best, ljc http://ljcbluemuse.blogspot.com/
