Do you ever do movie recommendations here? Well, I haven't seen any since I arrived, but I thought I'd start a thread for them because I saw a good one recently.

For this thread, I am only thinking of movies that are artist friendly; ones that help us to be more creative or learn about the artist’s life.

"Chelsea Walls" is a movie directed by Ethan Hawke that is a very loose story about the artists living in the New York hotel by that name. It takes place in the present and has characters in the visual, literary, and musical arts. It has some beautiful scenes about love and isolation and the loneliness that comes with pursuing art. And it has a slant on poets in particular that I think many of you will enjoy.

A warning for those who might watch this with non-artists: It’s not a good idea! They will be bored looking for the story.

I have two other movies that I can recommend at the moment:

The movie about Sylvia Plath called “Sylvia”
The movie about painter Frida Kahlo called “Frida”
"A-Bear"

I had the privilege of seeing several of Diego's paintings as well as Frida's at a local gallery not long ago. And that was before the Frida movie, which I highly recommend. I thought it was a very insightful look into the life and times of a very controversial couple.

I am also reminded of "The Agony and the Ecstasy" with Charlton Heston as Michaelangelo. An oldie but a goodie. My personal favorite line: "If the wine is bad toss it out."

Question: was God asking Adam to pull on his finger in Michaelangelo's painting of the creation ? He does like a good joke now and then, you know. Puts a twist on the "big bang" theory," no? It's possible.

Oh, I remember that one, saw it years ago on the late, late movie probably.

I saw a good movie about Picasso on TV too but I can't remember who played him. I thought it was Anthony Hopkins but I couldn't find it in the blockbuster archives.

Most recently: The movie CRASH - it's a powerful 21thC socio flick - not didactic - very visceral & emotional.

Many others to recommend, if & when I have time.

Good Day every one
