Today I received a notice that Lulu is picking up the pieces of the scam site poetry.com. Anyone think this is a good thing? Why?

We had a discussion on this topic not too long ago, Judi:

poetry.com Has a New Name

You might find some interesting info in there.

Best,

thanks, still confusing to me - I used to think rather highly of lulu as far as self publishers go. I hate the term vanity press. Also within poetry.com was a publishing arm called exlibris.
I queried once and they never left me alone!
I never bought any of the anthologies after reading some of the poems there besides mine. Also there is some group on line that wanted you to spoof the site with fake submissions just to see how bad the poetry could be and still be accepted.
Is there litigation involved with poetry.com? I had the idea that they were curtailed not just folded.

poetry.com was a predator. They got a bad reputation for being a sleezy vanity outfit and hoodwinking many aspiring poets. Like many tarnished spoons, eventually they felt the need to get out the bottle of Tarn-X. Hence, Lulu.

My advice: put as much distance between poetry.com and any successor or affiliate as you can -- and then some more.

Tune in to the small press, both the print small press and the online small press. This is where the poetry scene in the USA and worldwide is really happening.
