e- I'm glad I made time to read this. I needed the reminder to get back to recording. here are some points from the article:

The Audio Revolution: How to Amplify Your Poems
by Todd Boss

"There's something to be said for the way music can give the listening mind a break from poetry, and this, too, is important for poets to grasp. Poetry readings typically stack the poems so deep, and leave so little room for the mind to absorb them, that they risk penetrating the listener's consciousness only minimally

"Audio isn't likely to replace the printed (or pixelled) page, but you couldn't ask for a better way to supplement it. Just remember: Standard book contracts give audio rights to publishers, taking your control of future audio recordings away, but most publishers won't raise a fuss if this clause is struck from a contract. You should insist on retaining your rights to recordings of your work, so that you can explore, unhindered, the many ways in which audio can be put to good use."

recording tips:

"Slow down.
Breathe. Relax.
Work from the diaphragm.
Pause where meanings, not necessarily line breaks, require.
Articulate. Everything.
Go for rich, round vowels.
Vary tone and pacing appropriately.
Believe (afresh) every word.
Practice often into a recorder.
Listen critically to yourself and others."

Very good points you picked up Laz especially the recording tips. The same is true for a live reading.

The most important of these I think is:

Believe (afresh) every word.

You can really tell when someone is reading a poem as if they want you to get it!

I especially enjoyed the http://bcactionpoet.org/ example and added it to my favorites to pass along to others. Lazarus' tips can indeed be used at open mics for a stellar performance. I'd tip my hat to you Laz, if I was wearing one. Please accept my simple "thank you" instead. You too, E, thank you for posting this. Most informative.
