Chapbooks have become a mainstay in the creation of short books of poetry. Larger collections move up to book level -- usually around 48 + pages I believe. Chapbooks come from chapmen--the peddlers who used to sell these handstiched books on the streets. (I believe the derivation of "chap" is "cheap". Many poetry publishers (small press) still produce handstiched beauties though some are stapled.

There's loads of history about chapbooks. You need only good to know!

Many people begin with chapbooks either by creating and distributing their own or by submitting their work to small presses who specialist in poetry chapbook publication.
